To ensure that Europe mntns its competitive edge and positions itself to seize this market opportunity, it's imperative for European game developers and businesses to strategize, innovate, and collaborate with visionary goals.
Unlocking Gaming Potential Beyond Entertnment:
The gaming industry is often seen solely through the lens of entertnment; however, its potential exts beyond just leisure. Current technological advancements that are shaping the future of gaming, such as are largely developed by non-European entities, posing challenges to Europe's efforts in aligning with United Nations Sustnable Development Goals SDGs 8 and 9 - promoting decent work, economic growth, and fostering innovation.
Nurturing Talent for a Robust Future:
One critical challenge Europe faces is the talent gap in gaming. Educational institutions struggle to integrate effective gaming curricula into their programs, leaving educators inadequately equipped to incorporate gamification strategies into learning processes. Moreover, there's an urgent need to bridge the gap between the gaming industry and sectors such as education, technology, and beyond. Ensuring a skilled workforce is essential for sustning Europe’s growth in this sector.
Navigating Global Platform Limitations:
The dominance of global platforms poses significant barriers for European gaming companies. These challenges include data access restrictions, market entry obstacles, payment gateway limitations, and distribution channel constrnts. To remn competitive on the global stage, European firms need to embrace disruptive trs such as third-party payment systems, no-code platforms, user- content, and digital ethics.
Business Creation in the Era of Globalization:
European gaming start-ups and scale-ups are battling for market share with American and Asian counterparts leading the charge. Accessing venture capital is challenging, and European games often lack visibility agnst a saturated global landscape, impacting their growth prospects. Addressing these challenges will be pivotal in ensuring Europe's continued presence and influence on the global stage.
Supporting Disruptive Technologies:
To tackle these pressing issues, our focus shifts towards increasing the adoption of cutting-edge technologies among European small to medium enterprises SMEs in gaming. Our goal is a 1.25 increase by 2027 in SME adoption of no-code platforms, third-party payment systems, user- content, and digital ethics.
A Welcome Package for Start-ups:
Starting from January 2025, we ext an invitation to the EIT Culture Creativity community with a yearly membership fee of €500. This package grants access to our extensive network encompassing universities, research institutions, cities, cultural entities, and businesses. It also includes invitations to specialized pitching events both at regional and European levels.
